How to become an esports player in India (BGMI, Valorant, Free Fire)
A practical path to becoming an esports player in India: pick your game, get good, find a team, play tournaments and scrims, and get noticed.
Esports in India has grown from LAN parties to official national events with big audiences. Turning pro takes years of practice and a lot of competition, but the path is clear. Here is how players usually get there.
1. Pick one main game
Focus on one competitive game with an active Indian scene: BGMI, Valorant and Free Fire have the largest communities, with growing scenes in Call of Duty Mobile, EA FC and fighting games like Tekken. Spreading your time across many games slows you down.
2. Get good, deliberately
- Play ranked regularly and aim for the top tiers on your server.
- Watch your own gameplay back to spot mistakes, not just pro streams.
- Learn the competitive meta: maps, rotations, agents or loadouts and team roles.
- Look after your setup: a stable internet connection matters more than an expensive device.
3. Find a team
Most competitive titles are team games. Join or build a squad with players around your level who are as committed as you are, and agree on roles, practice times and a captain or in-game leader.
4. Play tournaments and scrims
Tournaments are how you get experience and results to show. Start with free and small community events, then move up. On the Hash app you can join BGMI, Valorant, Free Fire and other tournaments, register with your squad and track your results and rankings on your profile.
5. Get noticed
- Keep a record of your results and rankings.
- Stream or post highlights so teams and fans can find you.
- Network in Discord servers and communities for your game.
- Try out for amateur and semi-pro teams when they announce open slots.
6. Treat it like a career
Pro players practise for many hours a day, look after their health and handle the pressure of losing. Have a plan for education or a backup career, because only a small number of players make it to the top tier.
Play it, don't just read it.
